Bass fishing is one of the most common types of fishing. Many bass fish are found in bayou water and salt water. They also move through lakes, ponds, reservoirs and streams. If you know the basics regarding conditions and places where bass are likely to be, you will have more success when you fish for them.

Many variables change the location of bass, such as water conditions, water levels, weather, and light and food availability. There are three main elements that must be present in a body of water in order for bass to survive: Food, oxygen, and cover.

A bass favorite meal is crawfish, which they prefer over shad. Basically, crawfish are usually more plentiful and they are easy for the Bass to catch. However, a bass will typically eat anything from rats, mice, ducklings, frogs, snakes, salamanders, worms, lizards, grubs, baitfish, insects, and leeches. Their ability to feast on one thing above another is why many people find such enjoyment from fishing bass.

Oxygen is another key component in finding bass fish. The basic rule of thumb is that the cooler the water, the more oxygen content. Therefore, if you are fishing in the spring, summer or early fall, you will find that the larger bass will drop down lower to find the cooler and more oxygen-filled water. They will also swim to find areas that are more concentrated in vegetation in order to find a better oxygen source. Trees, stumps, wind-blown banks, and power plants are all good sources of oxygen that will attract bass fish.

A bass relies on cover for a means of protection and way of ambush. Cover is part of a bass survival. The bass is known as a lazy fish, so they will hide and wait for their prey to come to them. The other reason for cover is that bass fish do not have eyelids and the cover is a way to prevent blindness. Some common cover areas to find bass in are around fabricated wood structures such as fencerows, docks, and pilings. They have been known to hide under floating pieces of wood or decaying wood. Weeds are the second best place to hunt for bass. Finally, rocks are the third place that bass will find cover. Rocks are not as reliable as weeds or wood, but sometimes a bass will find decaying pieces of food to feast on within some rocks. Remember that rocks do not produce oxygen, so the source is not as consistent.

When it comes to fishing, everyone has a different opinion. You will often find that these opinions range in location and source. However, there are some lures and baits that are recommended for bass fishing that may be useful if you havent tried them. Tequila colored 7-inch worms with added scent are recommended, as well as Rebel Wee-Rs. Hellgrammites are thought to be the best live bait, and many will say that you dont need big lures to attract big bass. Everyone will tell you to tie up to an embankment, or find a dock to get close to, but it is really an art that could take years to perfect.

Bass are notorious for slow moving and lack of distance in their movements. Logically, you could sit 30 feet from the biggest bass of your life, and he is not going to swim to your bait out of pure laziness. Finding the exact spot is difficult and a lot of fishing has to do with luck. The only part that you can control is finding the most likely places that a bass may be and exercise some patience. Weather is important to bass as well. If it is a cloudy day, you might have more luck than on a hot summer day. However, overcast is probably ideal for water temperatures, but then you have to decide what you are willing to sit through in order to catch a fish. The bottom line with bass fishing is you can only do your best with the knowledge at hand.

Spend a day learning to fly fish and open up the door to a lifetime of angling adventures and memories. Upon completion of this full day, comprehensive school, you will be skilled and confident enough to pack up your fly fishing gear and head out to enjoy a trip on the water of your choosing. The elements of the sport we feel are essential for beginners and cover in the school are as follows:

Equipment Knowledge and Selection

Casting Techniques & Presentation

Reading Water

Wading Techniques

Fishing Knots

Fly & Leader Selection

Fly Presentation

Proper Fish Fighting Techniques

Lots of time spent fishing!

The setting for our fly fishing schools is a sportsman club in Manchester, Indiana. The location is a short drive from Cincinnati, Ohio. The club is comprised of 1000 pristine acres of rolling hillsides housing 14 ponds and a man-made trout stream. The waters are home to largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, panfish, trout, carp, and catfish. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, a newly remodeled lodge with full amenities is at our disposal.

The fly fishing schools run from March-August. The cost of the school is $175 and includes all fly fishing equipment, a hearty lunch, and beverages. Accommodations at the lodge or nearby casino hotels are available, and we would be happy to make those arrangements for you. The schools are limited to 4 or 5 participants, ensuring a lot of personal attention.

When it comes to bass fishing, one of the most common questions even some experienced anglers ask is how to go fly fishing for bass. Perhaps the first consideration when fly fishing for bass is gear.
If you have trout fishing rods, you can probably just use those for your bass fishing. About a six weight will easily suffice and get you started, but any fairly light rig will work.
If you plan on fishing for lunker, and want to cast some really big flies, try a nine weight. If you are not planning on trying to cast really long distances, a double taper line is a good line choice. Many bass fishermen swear by weight forward lines or a bass tapered line. It really is a matter of personal choice and depends on trial and error to find what really works best for you.
A good fly choice for catching bass is a Dahlberg Diver. It is small and thin, and there are a many variations that go by different names. The biggest differences in the variations is that there are small differences in the tying techniques that sometimes cause the fly to dive less or pop on the water more.
When tying bass flies, deer hair is the only way to go for various reasons, but versatility and ease are the biggest reasons.
If you are unsure how big a fly you can cast on lighter lines, just tie some bass bugs, and take them out with a pair of fly scissors. Just trim the bug until it is the right size to provide the kind of cast you need. Watch the effect your trimming has on the fly in the water, and adjust accordingly.
One thing to remember is that bass really are not too choosy. They are predatory hunters, and if something causes a commotion on the water, they are going to show up to nab whatever is in their territory.
Now, you should think about the best ways to move your fly in the water. You will see a lot of anglers out there getting muscle strain, yanking on their rods. There really is no need. Many an angler has learned the lesson on the benefits of slowing their retrieve.
Once your fly hits the water, let it sit for a moment as if it is stunned, then give a single twitch of your line. Then, give another twitch or two, as if a wounded bug is trying to get out of the water. If the bass have not taken your bait by then, give a giant yank. Continue this strategy until you get a bite.
If you are tying your own flies, consider tying in a manner to create the illusion of heft without weight or air resistance that comes with weight, which will allow them to remain simple and thin, while they sink slowly. Consider a marabou body that is trimmed close, with about a two inch feather attached as a tail. Wooley Buggers are easy to cast and work very well for this effect.

Fishing reel variety can be quite difficult if you are new to the fishing sport, because they come in all shapes, sizes, designs, and amounts.Fishing is the pursuit of catching fish. There are many fishing methods such as trapping, netting, gathering and angling. Additionally, the term fishing is useful to haunting other aquatic animals such as different types of shellfish, turtles, squids, frogs and other edible marine invertebrates. The term fishing is not commonly applied to haunting aquatic mammals like whales. The term "whaling" is more appropriate or other profitable fish farming.Fishing is an antiquated and universal practice with several techniques and traditions. It has been changed by advance technological developments. In addition to food providing harvesting fish, fishing is both a recreational and professional sport.Taking fishing either recreational /professional sports or way of living, you need to have a proper and effective equipment to make your fishing venture a successful one. Fishing reels are one of those various tools used in fishing. Fishing reel variety can be quite difficult if you are new to the fishing sport, because they come in all sizes, shapes, designs, and amounts. Some basic understanding of the types of fishing reels available and the uses for which they are designed can be absolutely beneficial before setting out to buy a new fishing rig. Making yourself knowledgeable to fishing reels will not only reward you with the certainty that you are buying the right reel, but are likely to save you a lot of money. Here is some of the basis fishing reels existing for your fishing undertaking. First, there are four basic types of fishing reels that includes the spin casting reel, the spinning reel, the casting or bait-casting reel, and the fly fishing reel. The purpose of each type is the same and it is to catch fish, however, the techniques for casting and using each type is quite different. The Spin casting Reel is the most basic type of fishing reel, and is the type that most young fishermen set out with. This reel is completely enclosed in a cover with a small hole at the end of it, from which the line plays out. There is a spindle inside the housing that secures the line, and there is a trigger on the backside of the reel that looses the line for casting. This type of reel is a preferred for beginners because it doesn't tangle easily and it cast very easily. The one major disadvantage of the spin casting reel is that it does not cast as far as some of the other fishing reel types. The Spinning Reel is the common type of reel you will come across. This reel has an expose, visible, spool with a wire loop called a bail. This bail moves around the spool as you crank the line back in. It also guides the fishing line back onto the spool. These types of reels usually have some kind of drag adjustment, as well as an anti-reverse mechanism that stops the line from playing back out when you decide to stop cranking. These reels usually suspended below the rod, while the spin casting reel is mounted on top of the rod. The main disadvantage of the spinning reel is that it tangles much easier than a spin-casting reel. This is compensating by the fact that a spinning reel can cast much advance. Now that you know some of the types of reels obtainable and the ways in which each are used, you can safely decide which type of fishing reel is reasonable for you.

The most basic piece of equipment required for fishing is fishing tackle. Fishing tackle is a generic term that refers to equipment such as lures, bait, lines, rods, reels, nets and trawls, downriggers, outriggers, gaffs, harpoons, clevises, floats, and traps. The kind of fishing tackle that you will require depends on the kind of fish that you are angling to catch. It will also be dictated by your experience in fishing. A fishing tackle can be as simple as a soda can with fishing line attached to it, or a pole with a line tied to the end. These simple forms of fishing tackle are used to fish near the bank.Advanced users may want to consider a rod and reel arrangement. This type of fishing tackle uses reels to store a large amount of line. This enables you to cast your line further. A rod and reel arrangement is essential for fishing in deeper waters and for tackling larger fish. There are many different types of fishing tackle that employ the rod and reel arrangement. The four basic kinds are: spin cast, spinning, bait cast, and fly casting. For more information, visit our website at http://www.seaisletackle.com.Spin castSpin cast fishing tackle is ideal for beginners as it is easy to use, after a bit of practice. A spin casting rod has a straight handle and line guides to prevent the line from running awry. The reel is mounted on top of the handle of the fishing rod. The fishing line comes out of a small hole in the cover of the reel. Spin casting is used to catch fish such as bluegill, crappie, and other pan fish.SpinningSpinning fish tackle is so called because the casting reels spool spins as the line is cast out. The design is similar to spin casting fishing tackle except that the reel is usually mounted on the underside of the handle and the line is released by using the index finger. This sort of design takes a bit of practice, and is only recommended for more advanced users. The advantage of a spinning tackle is that it allows you to cast your line over a larger distance and lets you use a variety of fishing lines.Bait castingBait casting is one of the most difficult forms of fishing tackle to use. As the line is controlled by your thumb, you have to put in many hours of practice to ensure that you can control the line properly. The advantage of bait casting is that it gives you an unbelievable amount of accuracy and control. In fact bait casting is the preferred method of fishing tackle for professional bass fishing.Fly castingFly casting is regarded as the pinnacle of fishing tackle. This is the most difficult of all fishing tackles and requires a lot of practice and patience to master. The basic movement is similar to spin casting; however in fly casting, instead of relying on a weighted lure, the weight of the line itself carries the artificial fly to the fish. Fly casting allows you to cast your line with speed, accuracy, and gives maximum range. Fly fishing is a highly competitive sport and attracts thousands of enthusiasts every year.

Tying a high quality fly fishing knot is an important aspect of a repertoire for a fly fisherman in order to catch the ideal fish. The line is basically consisted of different lines on top of the fly at the tail end; consequently tying a good knot is a requirement so as not to make it come loose when you are out on your fishing voyage. Otherwise there will be gloomy tale to tell of the fishes that get away.So how to tell what is a good knot? The mark of one is that it will not become slacken when you are battling with the fish. To do so, a good practice is to moisten it by applying water or saliva, then tighten it with a firm pull to enable it to be snug firmly throughout the whole knot. That is the correct method if the fish will to drag in one direction; it will not cause the line to sever as the knot is consistently tightened. After strengthening the knot, it is vital to check every knot to make certain that there is no abrasion. If not the fisherman has to redo it so that it can face up to the test. When you discover that a line is torn or worn out, then it is time to get a new one or the knot will cause you to lose your catch. Every part of the line and knot have to be in ideal state or you will never get the best fly fishing knot irrespective of your tying skill. Perhaps we can examine certain types of knots in order to get the fishing line equipped and all set up. Nearest to the reel, we have the Arbor knot that is most frequently employed to unite backing of the spool to the reel. After which, you utilize an Albright knot to fasten the backing to the fly line. That can create a problem as generally the lines are constructed of dissimilar materials. The next fly fishing knot to consider is the Nail knot as it joins the leader to the fly line and it is a very important knot as it is what turns the fly over at casting. The next to take note is the Double Surgeons fly knot that ties the tippet to the leader. Finally, the Improved Clinch fly fishing knot is for most part employed to connect the tippet to the fly, therefore the job of tying the fly fishing line is done.

Trout and other fish have common feeding behavior. Understanding these feeding clues are good fly fishing fundamentals that will make fly fishing more fun and productive. These clues are telling signs of what type of foods the trout are eating and whether the food is on top of the water or subsurface. A wide brimmed hat and a good pair of Polaroid sunglasses will reduce glare from the water and help you spot these vital clues.

1 A normal rise with bubbles indicates that trout are taking food off the surface.

2 Trout leaping out of the water may be feeding on flying insect like dragonflies and damselflies, spinners and caddis flies.

3 Tailing trout with their head down fossicking and tails in the air indicate feeding on nymphs, pupae and scuds.

4 Smelting. Trout are taking baitfish and are aggressive in their feeding, sometimes there will be bow waves as the bigger fish rush in and attack the baitfish in the shallows.

5 Slashing means the trout are feeding on fast moving insects like caddis moths and grasshoppers. Slashing can also indicate feeding on snails; this can be exciting but hard fishing.

6 Porpoising indicates trout feeding on emergers. With abundance of food in some cases the trout will be predictable in their direction of feeding before the surface again. Landing a fly well in front of the fish porpoising can be effective.

7 A swirl or small whirlpool means the fish are feeding below the surface.

8 Bulging also points to feeding just under the surface. Sometimes the trout will angle up towards the surface and stop as they take the food causing a bulge in the water.

9 Sipping indicates trout feeding on smaller insects like ants or spent spinners low on the water surface.

10 A normal rise without air bubbles is a sign of the trout taking emergers right under the surface tension of the water.

Studying the water and feeding behavior of trout and other fish will increase your knowledge and observation skills. These indicators will increase your chances of landing the trophy fish as you can then select the right imitation fly, equipment and techniques to match the hatch!

Get some Tips on How to do Fly Fishing
You can find a number of live-bait anglers perhaps numbering thousands that are brilliant sportsmen, but when it comes to fly fishermen they can practice better conservation from the start.
Fly fishing in recent times have been one of the sports that has been gaining popularity and it has been also a source of conserving natural habitat as well it is the source for aquatic game and recreation.
There are certain things that is required to make Fly fishing simple and they are you should have a good appropriate rod; you have master the appropriate casting technique and you must have a line to match it.
For the ones who want to know some fly fishing tips there are some guidelines which can help hone their fly fishing techniques:
a. The Rod Material
For the starters or the one having moderate financial means hollow glass can be tried. It requires relatively less maintenance than bamboo sticks and will not be damaged if handled improperly.
b. Line
If you have a rod and line that does not match each other then you may not progress in fly casting skill. About 99 percent of the time the fly caster faces trouble as his line is too light to take out the action of his rod.
Therefore it is important to have the knowledge that on the given rod line should be of the same size. It could be used for anything from bluegills and trouts to bis sea fishes.
When a size line is chosen then the anglers should fetch a C level, an HCH double-taper or a GBF 3-diameter.This selection is based on the fact that most of the fly rods that are bought today are of hollow glass and that a majority of these work fine with lines of those sizes and the length and weight doesn't matter much.
c. The appropriate Casting Technique
When casting, it should be remembered that you get about twenty feet of line out front. Anglers should keep in mind to cast a straight line. Jerky movements should be avoided even when in fast mode.
The anglers should be calm and relaxed. Tight muscles can spoil the casting.
Thus the basic fundamentals should be learned and then you can enjoy fly fishing.
Thus the most easy and surest way in which you can learn the casting is to spend out time in the river with the fishermen who are experts in casting.

Once you make the decision that you want to become part off the world of fly fishing, you have to then decide if you are going to keep your catches or release them back into the water safe and sound. Some fishermen keep all the fish they catch, others release all that they catch, and some choose to use a combination of the two.
These fly fishermen keep only what they are going to eat, or give to other people to eat, and release all of the other fish they catch.
If you decide to practice fly fishing using the catch and release method, it is very important that you crush the barb of the hook you are going to use. The other choice is to use a hook without barbs. This is done to avoid any unnecessary injuries to the fish. It is also important to keep the fight as short as possible so the fish does not become overtired. At the first opportunity, bring the fish to hand but do not take it out of the water. While holding it under the water, remove the hook using a pair of fishing pliers.
If the fish seems to be too tired to swim away, hold it gently just under the surface of the water with one hand around its caudal wrist, which is just ahead of the tail. With the other hand, support the fish under its belly. Rock the fish gently back and forth making sure that the water enters its mouth and flows over its gills. Using this method, the fish should gain its energy back quickly. When you feel the fish try to pull away, gently release your hold on it. Using the catch and release method of fly fishing can be very rewarding.
Often fishermen believe they should release the smaller fish that they catch and keep the larger ones. They might not be aware that the larger fish usually represent the more genetically suitable spawner. They are the ones that are the most valuable fish for keeping a healthy species. It is wiser to keep the smaller fish to eat and release the larger ones back into the water.
Some people while fly fishing, feel that it is all right to catch as many fish as possible as long as they release them all. However, catch and release is not foolproof. Many fish are injured during the process and some even die. At times, even though the fisherman doesn't keep any of the fish he catches, the overall fish mortality rate for that day is higher then if he had caught and kept the legal limit. Most fish, even if they are not physically injured, will sulk for a while after they have been released because of the trauma of being caught and released.
Catch and release fly fishing can be a wonderful way to experience the sport. Every release of a fish contributes to the conservation efforts that ensures the future of having future stocks of fish.
